A voluntary recall notice on a relatively new line of Scubapro weight-pockets has been issued by Johnson Outdoors, which is concerned that the plastic D-ring handle used to unlock the product from a BC could detach during use.
“If this happens, the user will not be able to remove the weight-pocket in an emergency to rise to the surface, posing a risk of serious injury or death from a drowning hazard,” states the notice.
Scubapro has received two reports of the D-ring handle detaching, though no injuries have been reported.
The weight-pockets, which are manufactured in South Africa, were sold between November 2025 and February 2026 and letters are said to have gone out to listed customers telling them to stop using the products immediately.
Owners are advised that they can register for a free repair. The work will be carried out by their nearest authorised dealer, or they can apply for a prepaid shipping label to return the product to Scubapro for free repair and return shipping.

The Monorail Weight Pockets, which made their debut at the DEMA Show last year, come in eight colours and both standard and mini versions. “Monorail Weight System” is printed on the bottom of the pocket and ‘Scubapro’ on the cover of the standard size.
Some 2,800 of the products are known to have been sold in the USA and about 40 in Canada, and the recall is being co-ordinated with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada. Repairs are expected to begin in early May.
