Scubapro has launched its second-generation Luna dive-computer, and says it will prove intuitive to use and easy to read for its target market of new and casual recreational divers – who are likely to remain well within the limits of its 120m-depth-rated oil-filled plastics housing.
There are two versions of the notably low-profile instrument, the Luna 2.0 and the Luna 2.0 AI, which offers wireless air integration for monitoring tank pressure.
On both models the large widescreen display features a high-contrast black and white matrix-segment LCD with full-sized characters. The simple menu and two-button interface is assisted by what the manufacturer describes as clearly marked screen prompts.
There are three dive modes, Scuba, Apnea and Gauge, and a choice of two algorithms: Predictive Multi-Gas Bühlmann ZH-L16 ADT MB PMG or ZH-L16 + GF PURE, plus 21-50% nitrox compatibility and three selectable gases for open-circuit diving.
The AI version offers the same features plus air integration, which enables it to provide true remaining bottom time (RBT) and allows gas consumption to be factored into the decompression calculation. Also available with the AI is an optional integrated heart-rate monitor that visually tracks heart-rate and skin temperature.
Both models include personalised dive-management functions. One of these is PDIS (Profile Dependent Intermediate Stops), which calculates the stop based on nitrogen loading, current and previous dives and breathing mixes.
Another is Microbubble Levels, which provides the option to adjust the algorithm’s conservatism to suit the diver’s experience level, age and physical conditioning.
The unit comes with a soft silicone strap and has bungee-mounts on the corners of the housing to allow for different attachment methods.
A Bluetooth Low Energy interface enables dive data to be downloaded to any iOS or Android device or PC/Mac (firmware can be user-updated), and the CR2450 battery is rated for up to two years or 300 dives.
The Scubapro Luna 2.0 is priced at £395, the Luna 2.0 AI at £490 and the AI complete with Smart+ Pro wireless transmitter £670. Find full details of the product at the Scubapro site.
